The BEST GOAL Project, within the framework of the “Europe for Citizens” Programme 2014-2020, Measure 2.1 “Town-Twinning”, took place in Mielno, a beautiful town in the north of Poland, from August 22nd – 27th 2018.

The six day International Meeting was hosted by the Project Applicant, the Municipality of Mielno, in strict collaboration with the “Centrum Kultury w Mielnie”, and was attended by eight European Partners coming from four Countries, and namely from the Municipality of Wieliszew (Poland), the Municipalities of Cautano, Graffignano, Lubriano and Castiglione in Teverina (Italy), the Municipality of Arnót (Hungary) and the Municipality of Il-Birgu (Malta).

During the Meeting, the international delegates and the local civil authorities were trained both about the Project and about the “Europe for Citizens” Programme 2014-2020, while, on August 24th, there was the core of the event, with the Partners signature of the “Friendship and Cooperation Agreement” that has paved the way to future fruitful collaborations within the framework of European Programmes.

The Mayor of Mielno, Mrs. Olga Roszak-Pezała, after a warm welcome to the delegations, stated: “It has been a great pleasure to have had you all here during our local Water Festival and, most of all, to have been the Applicant of a European project, for the first time. Mielno is a small community of 3.200 citizens and this International Event allowed us to emerge and make our voices heard at European level. Then, she continued: “With the BEST GOAL initiative, we have created the basis for meeting and confrontation opportunities and exchange of best practices which are necessary to undertake actions leaned towards the future of Europe and, thus, the future of our children”.

Participation: The project involved 300 citizens, notably 80 participants from the city of Mielno (Poland), 40 participants from the city of Wieliszew (Poland), 30 participants from the city of Cautano (Italy), 30 participants from the city of Graffignano (Italy), 30 participants from the city of Il-Birgu (Malta), 30 participants from the city of Arnót (Hungary), 30 participants from the city of Lubriano (Italy), 30 participants from the city of Castiglione in Teverina (Italy).

Location/Dates: The event took place in Mielno (Poland), from 22/08/2018 to 27/08/2018.

Short description: The aim of the event was to set up a discussion over Youth Work and Social Entrepreneurship. In fact, they are gaining force in EU countries but they represent a new topic at European level. The purpose of BEST GOAL was to focus, address and promote the concept of Social Engagement of Youth. It had involved Partners linked by an active background in EU policies and a strong will to promote common topics of strategic importance for their communities. The Project has involved Young Europeans in promoting Social Entrepreneurship, fostering Solidarity at European Level, exchanging know-how and favoring cross-fertilization of existing projects. The aims were:

-to foster Project Partners ability to boost Social Work and Youth Work to fight unemployment and favor social inclusion of disadvantaged youth, in line with the objectives of the EU 2020 Strategy;
-to debate Solidarity in times of crisis;
-to allow best practices and know-how exchange, favoring cross-fertilization of projects;

-to enhance the knowledge about EU policy-making process and programs among citizens (young people in particular);
-to support policy makers with the gathering of recommendations on Solidarity issues and processes from small communities, to create strategies at local, national, EU level;

-to foster EU citizenship and improve civic participation, with particular attention to hard-to-reach groups; -to promote social engagement and volunteering.

The 22/08/2018 was dedicated to the arrivals of the intenational delegations, with an official opening session and a welcome speech by the Mayor of Mielno, Mrs.Olga Roszak-Pezała. The speech was followed by the presentation ofthe delegations and the tour of Mielno.

The 23/08/2018 was dedicated to the seminar “EUROPE FOR THE FUTURE-THE FUTURE OF EUROPE: the Europe for Citizens Programme 2014-2020 and the BEST GOAL Project”.

The 24/08/2018 was dedicated to a workshop about “THE EUROPEAN SOLIDARITY SYSTEM”, followed by aproject working over the crisis and Social Enterprises solutions.

The 25/08/2018 was dedicated to a workshop-debate about “YOUTH CAN MAKE THE DIFFERENCE”. It wasfollowed by one question assessment scenario: practical activity for young unemployed people. The program also foresaw visit to local youth associations.

The 26/08/2018 was dedicated to a seminar about “Positive Impact of Social Enterprises on situations of disadvantage: best practices from the Partners”, followed by debates and by a seminar about sharing economy and gift economy, social responsible business: practical cases from stakeholders.

The 27/08/2018 was dedicated to a workshop about the role of women during the crisis in different EU Countries. The rest of the day was dedicated to the future planning and departure of the delegations.
